It is no exaggeration to say that J.S. Bach's monumental masterpiece, the St. John's Passion's April 12, 2019 presentation at the Győr Basilica could be GYPO's current 2018/19 season's pinnacle event as part of the Benedek Istvánffy's season ticket series. Exceptional musical experience is guaranteed by not only our city's orchestra but by top-notch Austrian vocalists as well, and not least by a world renown conductor of it all. The Győr Phil this time is to form musical partnership with the professional Arnold Schoenberg Choir of Vienna, established all the way back in 1972, and is especially known for their numerous great recordings.
We are proud to announce that the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra's all Brahms CD collection which was released in 2018 by world renowned classical music recording company "Naxos", has officially been nominated for a prestigious Gramophone Award. GYPO's 50th anniversary album of three CD's contains all symphonies by Johannes Brahms as well as two of his overtures. All recordings were conducted by the artistic director of the orchestra, Liszt Prize and Meritorious Artist Award winner Kálmán Berkes.

As a joint effort of the Foundation of the Music Empire (Zenebirodalom Alapítvány) and the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, we await to Richter Hall members of the youngest generation on February 5 to our show entitled "Music making families".
Italian conductor Attilio Tomasello is to be our guest again to present a performance of the Arthur Nikisch season ticket series called "Verdi and Puccini". Mr. Tomasello introduced himself to us all when he conducted here the stage version of Bizet's opera "Carmen" just over a year ago.

The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra's decades-long traditional Carnival concert is held on January 24, 2019.

Tradition and innovation are the two staple notions clearly permeating the Győr Phil's new orchestra season that also serves as a motto in anticipation of the year-long celebration of the 125th anniversary of founding a symphony orchestra in Győr as well as the 50th of taking the conglomerate to a full-time, professional level. The emphasis is on holding on to traditional values of classical music while approaching it in innovative manners in terms of interpretation.The harmony of this duality provides the chief guiding point for GYPO's artistic activities. As our patrons may well have been expecting in our seasons of yesteryears, exceptionally gifted stars of international fame, returning guest artists, and great novelties all feature in our beloved orchestra's current program offerings.
GYPO has recenetly had the unique priviledge to be the first Hungarian symphony orchestra to introduce itself on August 7, 2018, in one of the world's newest and most impressive concert halls, the spectacular Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany. Our orchestra had been invited to make an appearance at the Schleswig - Holstein Music Festival and gave a highly successful concert on the already world - famous stage before a full house.
We are pleased to announce that as a result of the European Clarinet Association's favorable decision our city can host this year the European Clarinet Festival between August 28 and 31, 2018. Clarinetist as well as artistic director of the event, Gábor Varga said to the press that during during the four days of the festival more than a hundred international and Hungarian artists are to make appearances. Simultaneously, to showcase young players' talents, there will be two competitions going on for two separate age groups.
