Ch. Gounod : St. Cecilia Mass
The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Gergely Dubóczky
Featuring the mixed choir of Veszprém (Choir Master is Ágnes Erdélyi)
It is known that St. Cecília is the guardian saint of musicians and music. This tradition began to spread all over Europe from as early as the 6th century, and to date she still is one of the most significantly iconic figure in Christianity-related arts.
The second piece of our Christmas concert, a festive mess, was composed in honor of St. Cecilia by French composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893). The composition, so rich in ambiant harmonies and lovely melodies, although decidedly popular as a church concert piece, it is to be a first performance of it in Veszprém.
Choir music with harp accompaniment opens the concert followed by J. S. Bach's masterful first Brandenburg Concerto.
At the organiser's request the event can only be attended on providing a valid proof of anti-Covid vaccination.
