Change in our 2024/25 Flesch series
Our chamber music series dubbed "Musical Eras" has successfully been launched on December 1, 2024, overseen by GYPO's artistic director, Kálmán Berkes. This set of performances features the talented artists of our great city's orchestra. Some things do not change as it is still the University Concert Hall (former synagogue) that houses these Sunday 4pm afternoon events. The orchestra’s musicians along with Mr. Berkes have again carefully selected worthy pieces of the chamber music repertoire also including rarely performed works
Our first concert in December 2024, dubbed "String Quartet and a Flute" was very well-received indeed. Nonetheless, it is our duty to now notify the public about a change in the forthcoming Flesch series event. On February 2, 2025, we are to present a concert simply entitled "Quartets". The program includes an F sharp minor string quartet by Joseph Haydn, followed by a piece composed 173 years later in 1960 by Dmitry Shostakovich. Our prominent string players are to conclude the concert with the very first string quartet composed by the great Pyotr IlyichTschaikowsky in D major.
The first warm breezes of the spring on March 9, 2025, is to bring yet some more beautiful string quartets, namely one in C major by W. A. Mozart, and one in F major by Antonin Dvořák. In order to offer more variety of chamber formations, on April 27, 2025, our company's wind players are to take over. Their program is entitled "Classical Winds" features mainly octets (works for eight players) written by Mysliveček, Krommer, and L. van Beethoven.
The title of the final chapter of the Flesch series is "Wind Quintets of the 20th century" on May 25, 2025. Iniquitously seldom performed foreign and Hungarian pieces of the wind quintet repertoire are in the program composed by Françaix, Endre Szervánszky, György Orbán, and Ibert.
All music lovers are cordially invited to share the joys of music!
