Cultural life to be reformed in Győr
As commonly became known after the city council's general assembly back in September 24, 2024, in order to conform with international and domestic trends, cultural and other presentations from now on are all to be coordinated by Győr Project Ltd . Consequently, functions and services of organizational body "Győr Arts and Festival Center" have become obsolete thus for more efficient functioning it merges into the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra.
Suggestions and decisions concerning this development, that should come into effect from March 31, 2025, were imparted at a recent press conference held by councillor in charge of cultural institutions, Róbert Barsi. He said "the organizing of cultural events in Győr is about to change as handling large-scale events from now belongs to the Győr Project Ltd. Services provided by MÜFE ( Győr Arts and Festival Center) thus have become redundant therefore for more efficiency it is now amalgamated fully into the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra. This means that those employed by MÜFE continue their work as staff members of GYPO. In addition, their movable and non-movable properties are now part of the orchestra’s assets that is the general public can only profit from. All current available services are still offered."
The councillor continued by recognizing the achievements of the orchestra’s general manager, Géza Fűke, and he is certain the apparatus of Müfe, including their staff, will be better off from March 31.
Mr. Fűke emphasized that "this offer by the City Council can be interpreted as a token of the city's appreciation of the work we had been doing in the past years. This is now a real challenge for us and it is vital to have the city's confidence and support."
Following the committee's decision it is now up to the Győr city council's positive attitude and next year's budget to determine the success of this merger of the two institutions until March 31, 2025.
General manager Géza Fűke has already met staff members of Müfe, and begun the negotiation process for a smooth transition. "The capacities of Zichy Palace are exceptional and it has enormous potentials to enrich our portfolio. This wonderful environment lends itself perfectly for baroque concerts that could be integrated into the programs of our Istvánffy series."
On the last note of the press conference the two men were in full agreement on how crucial our mutual efforts were to seek cooperation with local educational institutions. Having projects together with them can only enrich the cultural life of our beloved city.
